Warren Atkins - Segmented Vessel of Maple Burl, Blood Wood and Tulip Wood

Warren Atkins is an amazing man and artist. He's currently 86 years old and one of the leaders of the West Bay Area Wood Turners Club. He rarely repeats patterns and tries to produce in wood some of the patterns found in some of the Western Indian Tribes pottery and basketry. He really has developed into one of the real treasures in contemporary woodturning in the world today. As he once told me, each vessel should appear as if it could float upwards and the outer shapes of his vessels are not haphazard but true forms used by the ancients as well as the Indian Tribes that knew something harmonious about natural shapes and forms.
